Showdown In Paradise

Samoa is set to play host to the ‘Showdown In Paradise’ featuring undefeated Cruiserweight prospect in Samoan/ Australian Jai Opetaia (12-0) who is facing undefeated American Frankie Lopez (9-0) for the vacant IBF Cruiserweight World youth title in Apia.

The 22 year old Opetaia, a former amateur light heavyweight Junior world champion, was the youngest boxer ever to qualify for Olympics representing Australia at just 16 years of age. Since turning professional he has notched up 12 victories stopping nine inside the distance and in his last outing in July secured the Australian and OPBF title stopping veteran Daniel Ammann in the ninth round.

Frankie Lopez has stopped seven of his nine opponents to date inside the distance and is trained by former light heavyweight world champion Virgil Hill.

Promoter Michael Francis of Thunderstruck Entertainment said: “ in all it is a great night of fights featuring Heavyweight world title contender Alex Leapai who is coming out of retirement after two years of absence from the ring and WBO Heavyweight World Champion Joseph Parkers younger brother John Parker who is undefeated in three fights is also appearing on the undercard.

“Our main event is an exciting match up in what will be a crowd pleaser”, added Francis. ‘everyone loves a fight where someone’s ‘0’ is going to go’ and this one is the perfect storm – both young big punchers you can expect fireworks in the opening rounds. “
