Ryan Kielczewski Ko's Angel Mendoza At Plainridge Park Casino

By Stephen Tobey,PLAINVILLE, Mass. – Ryan Kielczewski knocked out Miguel Angel Mendoza in the third round of a scheduled eight-round lightweight bout on Saturday, Sept. 8 at Plainridge Park Casino.

 

Kielczewski finished the fight with a left hook to the body that forced Mendoza to a knee. Referee Mike Ryan reached the count of 10 at 1 minute and 3 seconds.

 

“It was the first time I threw that punch in the fight,” said Kielczewski, who lives in Quincy, Mass. “I saw the opening and I threw it.”

 

Kielczewski (29-3, 11 knockouts) also dropped Mendoza in the second round with an overhand right to the top of the head.

 

Mendoza, of Agua Calientes, Mexico, dropped to 23-15-2 (22).

 

Kielczewski was fighting at 135 pounds after campaigning for most of his career at 126 and 130. He said if the opportunity for a high-paying fight came up, he would drop back down to one of those weight classes.

 

“I was eating McDonald’s three weeks before this fight,” he said.

 

In the co-feature Mike Ohan of Holbrook, Mass. out-pointed Daniel Sostre of San Juan, Puerto Rico in a six-round welterweight contest. The scores were 59-55 (twice) and 58-56. Ohan is now 8-0 (5). Sostre is 13-19 (5).

 

Carlos Gongora of Esmaraldes, Ecuador stopped Jamie Barboza of San Jose, Costa Rica in the third round of a scheduled eight-round super middleweight bout. Gongora dropped Barboza in the third round and Ryan stopped the fight at 1:46. Gongora improved to 13-0 (10); Barboza dropped to 19-16 (5).

 

Welterweight Joe Farina of South Boston, Mass. stopped Andre Belcarris of Bennington, Vt. In the first round of a scheduled four. Farina (4-0, 3 Kos) dropped Belcarris three times before Jack Morrell stopped the fight at 2:06. Belcarris dropped to 0-4.

Travis Gambardella of Revere, Mass. won his scheduled four-round middleweight bout when Rodrigo Almeida of Woburn, Mass. did not answer the bell for the fourth round. Gambardella improved to 4-0 (2); Almeida dropped to 1-9.

 

Travis Demko of Stoughton, Mass. won a four-round unanimous decision against Bryan Goldsby of Macon, Ga. At welterweight. The scores were 40-36 (twice) and 39-37. Demko improved to 8-1 (1); Goldsby dropped to 4-8.

 

Tommy Bryant of Ft. Meyers, Fla. won a six-round split decision at welterweight against Romain Thomas of Brooklyn, N.Y. at lightweight. The scores were 58-56 and 60-54 for Bryant (4-18-3, 1 KO) and 58-56 for Thomas (7-2, 1 KO).

 

Sidney McCow of New York won a four-round unanimous decision against Bryan Abraham of Schenectady, N.Y. at welterweight. All three judges scored it 40-36. McCow improved to 5-8 (3); Abraham dropped to 6-32-2 (6)
