Ramos And Rivera Put On A Show In Arizona

By Ron Valderrama: The main event did not disappoint, legit action from the start as Abel Ramos (17-1-2, 12 KOs) met Juan Jesus Rivera (28-15-0, 18 KOs) in a bout scheduled for 8 rounds and for the ABO title. Rivera, a forward moving fighter seemed to have a lot of energy, but not many punches landed as round 2 came to an end. The look in the eyes of Ramos was one of patience, waiting for an opportunity. As the fight reached the mid-point, Ramos picked up the pace and began to land some impressive shots. Round 5 was dominated by Ramos, his speed and combinations were simply pure magic to watch. Rivera would not give in, despite some swelling to the face, he kept moving forward and throwing blows as best he could. Ramos went into beast mode in round 6, punishing Rivera with a mix of punches that he could not answer, the blows to the body of Rivera were beginning to take it’s toll. The round ended and so did the fight as Rivera failed to answer the call going into round 7. Ramos wins by TKO and is the ABO Champion.

The co-main event featured Andrew "Hurricane" Hernandez defeats Jorge Silva by TKO in a bout scheduled for 10 rounds and the Universal Boxing Federation (UBF) InterContinental super middleweight title. A good opening round for both fighters, Hernandez landing some blistering body shots early. Silva kept charging forward and landing some punches, but would pay a price with the heavy handed Hernandez. In round 4, a frustrated Silva was clowning which may not play out well on the scorecards. Hernandez, probably the slower puncher was not phased by Silva’s gestures and kept landing the harder punches. As the fight approached the half-way point, Hernandez began to find pay dirt, dropping Silva with a solid blow. The constant and repeated body shots began taking it’s toll on Silva, but the warrior refused to cave until he would not leave the stool for round 7. Hernandez wins by TKO.

The Undercard:

Adrian Taylor defeated Willie Burch in a 4 round light heavyweight battle by TKO of round 1. Burch never really got started before taking a beating.

In a battle fought well, Ilya Usachev of Russia battled a tough Tavorus Teague (3-15-0) in a 4 round welterweight bout. Usachev was making his pro debut, but looked surprisingly comfortable, fighting a nice inside game. The fight goes the distance as Usachev wins his first fight as a pro.

Keenan Carbajal (12-2-1, 6 KOs) met Ernesto Guerrero (22-19-0) in a 6 round featherweight bout. The fight was action packed from the first bell and in round 3, Carbajal rattled Guerrero with a barrage of punches. Guerrero had to take some time as round 3 continued to recover from a low blow thrown by Carbajal. As round 4 got underway, Carbajal turned up the heat and started landing some damaging blows on Guerrero. Make no mistake, Guerrero was tough and proved he had a solid chin and managed to land a few shots in return. The fight goes the distance as the judges score the bout 60-54, 59-55 and 58-56. Carbajal fought a good fight and made adjustments round-by-round. He is becoming more comfortable and is patient in the ring. Ernesto Guerrero has nothing to be ashamed about, he fought a good fight and lost to a worthy opponent.
