Rabchenko Fights In Walsall

Sergey Rabchenko is hoping to dust off a few cobwebs in the West Midlands on Friday night (February 19) before making a name for himself Stateside.

The former European and WBC Silver super-welterweight champion returns to the ring against Barcelona-based South American Miguel Aguilar on Hatton Promotions’ and Black Country Boxing’s eight fight card at Walsall Town Hall.

And he wants to sign off his British adventure in style before heading over the pond to the bright lights of the US.

Rabchenko has inked a deal with powerful adviser Al Haymon and Leon Margules’s Warrior Boxing outfit and is likely to begin appearing on Premier Boxing Champions shows later in the year. Long-term mentor and boxing legend Ricky Hatton will continue to serve as his trainer.

"I can’t wait to get back in the ring this Friday night," Rabchenko said. "I haven’t boxed since last year, but I feel very good physically and I’m ready to break this guy (Aguilar) down.

"I have enjoyed my fights in the UK and will continue to train here with Ricky, but after this I want to box in New York and Las Vegas. That is my dream.

"When I’ve beaten the best Americans, I will come back to the UK and defend my belts."

This Friday’s show is entitled ’Undefeated’ and is headlined by Halesowen puncher Lennox Clarke’s eight round tussle with Harlow’s Richard Horton.

On the undercard, Rabchenko is joined by fellow Ricky Hatton-trained fighters Reuben Arrowsmith (3-0), Sam Evans (2-0) and Nathan Gorman (1-0).

Also appearing are West Bromwich heavyweight Matt Gordon (2-0), highly-rated Swadlincote prospect Zach Parker (3-0), Old Hill’s stylish Manny ’Pac Man’ Zaber (3-0), Stoke’s Kieran McLaren (6-0) and Birmingham puncher Luke Heron (Walker) (2-0).
