Joseph Parker extended his unbeaten heavyweight record to, 9-0-(8), on Saturday night at the Vodafone Events Centre in Manukau City, New Zealand when he scored a seventh round tko win over American Brian “The Beast” Minto, 39-8-(25 ).
Minto has a reputation for going toe to toe but was surprisingly gun shy against his unbeaten and bigger opponent. Parker fought a smart fight by landing some big punches without getting too carried away and slowly broke down his more experienced opponent.
That patience paid off in the fifth round when Parker decked Minto with a big right hand behind to the side of the head. Parker decked Minto again at the end of round seven, prompting Minto’s corner to stop the fight during the interval. The bout was for the interim PABA and WBO Oriental titles.
On the undercard world rated light heavyweight Robert “The Butcher” Berridge took out Rogerio Damasco after just 2:18 of the opening round round. Berridge decked Damasco twice before the PABA and WBO Oriental title fight was stopped.
