Opportunity Knocks For Austin Trout And Abie Hann

By Andrew Rivera:For former world jr middleweight champion Austin Trout and his stablemate Abie Hann opportunity has knocked on the door for both fighters careers in the past two weeks. Trout will battle WBC super middleweight champion Jermell Charlo on June 9 , while Han will take on Anthony Dirrell in a title elimination bout April 28.

Trainer Louie Burke feels both have the opportunity to accelerate their respective careers.

“Abie just had a child and is always in shape, so when he got the call he was ready to go.” Says Burke. “He’s always in the gym with his karate school and fighting in his home town of El Paso made it easier on short notice for Abie.”

Han was last seen in the ring taking on favorite J’Leon Love in August 2017, he was fighting well and in fact in many eyes was winning the fight but then the two fighters clashed heads and Han was disoriented with a huge gash on his head, prompting the fight to be halted in the eighth round being called a technical draw.

“It was probably the worst clash of heads and cut I’ve ever seen” stated Burke. “It was gushing and we couldn’t stop it in the corner so the fight had to be stopped.”

If Han 24-3-1, can win this fight it could get him a possible title shot. He also seems fresher and rejuvenated for this shot at Dirrell in Burke’s eyes.

“I didn’t know how he’d react in the gym but he had a little chip and seemed relaxed ready to go, so hopefully it will cross over in the fight,” added Burke.

Trout will be the first fighter to fight both Charlo brothers in title fights.

Trout lost a close decision to Jermall in 2016 for the IBF jr middleweight belt.

In preparation for this fight training for Trout and Han has been between Las Cruces, NM and Houston, Tx. Burke along with Georgie Benton share the duties.

Burke, like Trout, fought a who’s who as a fight beating Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach twice, losing to Hector Camacho Sr. and fighting other top Jr lightweights in his day.

Trout 31-4, who defeated Miguel Cotto to take Cotto’s WBA Jr middleweight crown in 2012, has battled anyone and everyone in his weight class , Canelo , Erislandy Lara, recently losing to Jarrett Hurd for another title strap before getting back on track in February against Juan De Angel in El Paso.

“Austin was kind of hurt he wasn’t going to be fighting on the Han-Dirrell card, but PBC had a plan for Austin.”

That plan was to get him another title shot against Charlo.

Asked the difference in the two Charlo brothers Burke feels Jermell is a little faster.

“Jermell is a little faster than his brother. They both have power but his speed might be better.”

Burke feels Trout will have a better showing in his title shot then when he last battled Hurd.

“Austin is a boxer not a puncher, he got a little excited against Hurd. He hurt him then tried to stand and fight more.” Say Burke

Being a boxer and with Trout’s inactivity before the Hurd fight may have hurt him, but shouldn’t hinder Trout in this fight.

“It takes Austin time to get his rhythm being he’s a boxer so when he came to camp before Hurd it took him two-three weeks to get it back, this time around he came into camp already there. He should do well in the fight.”
