Micki Nielsen (22-0, 14 KO) scored a unanimous points victory over Johnny Muller (19-7-2, 13 KOs) on Saturday night at the Emperors Palace Casino in Gauteng, South Africa to progress to the final of the ‘Super 4’ cruiserweight tournament.

After ten hard-fought rounds the judges scored the fight 98-91, 96-93 and 95-94 in favour of the Danish boxer.

"It was a tough fight," said Nielsen. ‘’He threw a lot of punches but I landed more. No matter what I hit him with, he wouldn’t go down, and it was a little frustrating. I hit him hard to the head and body, but he took them well, and kept coming forward.’’

The Albertsund boxer started well and dominated the early stages of the fights, scoring with his trademark heavy hooks. In the fifth and sixth rounds, Muller began to fight back, and enjoyed some success of his own. However, Nielsen weathered the storm and finished the fight in fine fashion.

"I had a little flat period in the middle of the fight, but my corner got me going again and I finished the fight well,’’ he said.

The temperature in the ring in the low-ceilinged arena with lights radiating down upon the boxers had left its mark. "It was insanely hot," said Nielsen, who managed to keep his cool in the closing stages to see out an impressive points win.

Both boxers looked tired in the grueling final rounds, but Nielsen who had started strongly, also finished the best. With only 30 seconds left, Muller sank halfway out of the ropes after a barrage of punches from Nielsen, but the South African was able to beat the count to hear the final bell.

Nielsen now progresses to the final of the ‘Super 4’ tournament where he will face Kevin Lerena (15-1, 8 KOs) on October 22,

"I’m tired right now, but I will be going into the next training camp full of confidence, and I look forward to the final. I believe one hundred percent that I can win this tournament,’’ said Nielsen.
