Mosley defeats Cano


Former pound for pound king pin, "Sugar" Shane Mosley, 47-8-1-(39), scored a close unanimous 12 round decision over Pablo Cesar Cano, 26-3-1-(20) at the Grand Oasis Arena in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico on Saturday.


Cano started well, but the 41-year-old veteran gradually moved up the gears to punch on equal terms from round six. After round eight rounds, according the WBC’s open scoring system Mosley was ahead on two of the three judge scards.

Mosley rallied in the championship rounds to register a score of 115-113 on all three cards. Mosley claimed the vacant WBC International welterweight title and possibly one more big fight before he finally calls it a day.

On the undercard super featherweight Sergio Thompson went to, 27-2-(25), when he scored a fourth round tko win over Gustavo Sandoval, 13-5-1-(11). The bout was stopped just as Sandoval went down from a barrage of punches after 1:20.
