Menayothin Edges Out Jerusalem To Retain Title

Thailand’s WBC minimumweight champ Wanheng Menayothin, 45-0-(17), retained his title with a close but unanimous 12 round decision over the previously unbeaten Filipino boxer Melvin Jerusalem, 11-1-(7), in Phitsanulok, Thailand on Wednesday.

A point deducted for a low blow in round eight from Jerusalem may well have cost him a draw. Jerusalem made a quick and positive start but the champion regained control in the middle rounds until Jersuslaem fought back hard in the last two rounds.

At the end of 12 hard rounds Wanheng prevailed on all three judges cards by scores of 114-113 twice and 115-113.
