By Marc Livitz: An all eastern affair topped off an evening of fights at the Robinson Rancheria Resort Casino Tuesday night in Nice, California. Sergey Lipinets stopped Levan "The Wolf" Ghvamichava with a perfectly placed liver shot in the fifth round of their welterweight contest which was pushed to the main event. This was because Erick Martin failed to make weight for his contest against up and coming super featherweight contender, Mario Barrios. Lipinets (9-0, & KO’s) showed superior skill from the opening bell in the face of Ghvamichava’s (16-2-1, 12 KO’s) pressure as he used an effective jab and body shots.
While Georgian Levan did consistently move forward, it was ultimately his movement, or lack thereof that eventually led to him being caught midway through round five with a hard body shot from Russian Lipinets. The contest began with a very brief feeling out period, but quickly escalated to something just a bit short of a brawl.
Ghvamichava couldn’t capitalize on any of the left hooks he’d land, which would allow Seregy to look for the counter shot.
Halfway into round five, a straight right from Lipinets set up a press towards the ropes. Another right was followed by a perfectly placed left hook to the body. A brief pause in action was followed by Levan slumping to the canvas on his knees and unable to catch his breath or regain his composure. The tell tale signs of a liver shot were clearly visible as referee Edward Collantes reached the count of ten.
