In 2010, Kweder was promoted to Senior Director of Programming and Acquisitions at ESPN, the same title Loughrey officially had. Kweder played a key role in ESPN’s soccer acquisitions; under him, ESPN has become much more committed to soccer, promoting U.S. and Mexico World Cup qualifiers as well as purchasing the rights to Major League Soccer. The only blemish on Kweder’s record was that ESPN lost the rights to the English Premier League to NBC in 2011.
With Kweder moving over to boxing, he will oversee the day-to-day activities of all boxing programming. Part of those activities involves working closely with promoters and figuring out scheduling.
Kweder could not be reached for comment but ESPN’s public relations department did confirm Kweder’s new position.
Update: A previous version of this article said mentioned Kweder and Loughrey were on the same level. A correction has been made noting that Loughrey reported to Kweder and Kweder will now entirely and directly oversee boxing programming.
