Juan Diaz Stops Fernando Garcia In Texas

32 year old Former WBO lightweight champion Juan Diaz (41-4-20KO’S) returned to his home town of Houston Texas on Saturday to take on 29 year old Fernando Garcia (30-8-2-18KO’s) at the Arena theatre.

The last time Diaz was in the ring was back in 2014 when he achieved an unanimous decision win over 31 year old Carlos Cardenas. Diaz was ready to get back to his winning ways in a division he once ruled.

The first four rounds of the bout didn’t disappoint the Diaz home supporters, both fighters did not surrender ground. Diaz set a really high pace and was relentless in his attacks and Fernando was doing his best to stay with him. Both fighters where going toe to toe in the pocket and it was a battle of who wants it the most.

The constant pressure from Diaz started to take its toll on Fernando and he starting to wilt under the constant pressure. In round 9 Diaz scored a knock down and Fernando beat the count and was allowed to fight on. After another relentless attack Referee Laurence Cole stepped in to halt the fight at 2:24 of round 9.
