Jermall Charlo Impresses In Brooklyn,Calls Out GGG

By Jason Pribila: In a sport that Larry Merchant dubbed “The Theater of the unexpected”, one thing in boxing is becoming very clear. The Charlo Twins Revolution will not only be televised, but it is Must-See TV.

On Saturday Night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York it was Jermall’s turn to angrily ace another exam by dispatching a foe for an “Easy A”.

On this evening, we barely go to know B-side Hugo Centeno Jr.(26-2, 14 KO) before Charlo landed a four-punch combination that left Centeno flat on his back under the bottom rope.

“Two-time world champion, bring on G.G.G.!” Charlo demanded. “I want the title belt. Bring on G.G.G.”

Of course network affiliation would make it difficult for Charlo – Gennady Golovkin showdown, but it refreshing to hear a hungry fighter call out the best in the division whether or not they share the same company Mission Statement.

The biggest problem with Al Haymon’s failed attempt to monopolize the sport of boxing is that he will rarely match his top fighters against those who ply their trade on the other side of the street. Haymon’s top fighters seem to be fighting exclusively on Showtime, after he lost millions paying for airtime on Network Television.

This has led to, what I consider two Haymon Divisions. Company Men like boxer turned businessman Keith Thurman, Danny Garcia, and Shawn Porter seem content to take paydays as long as they remain short-sighted and only call out each other.

Thankfully there is a crew led by the Charlo Twins and Errol Spence Jr., who continue to take risks and call out their division’s best. They know that by fighting and beating the best they will go from making purses in the low 7-figures in favor of making the fights that are Pay Per View main event worthy.

Charlo has made his intentions clear regarding who he wants to fight next, and now he expects Haymon to deliver the “Where” and “When”.

“The Networks and the teams can figure out how out how to get the GGG fight done,” Charlo said. “I have the best manager in the world. I’m 27-0 with 21 knockouts. Everybody sees it. What more can I say?”

Fortunately for Jermall the division is not very deep. Therefore, whether it is Golovkin, Canelo, or Danny Jacobs; matching any of them with Charlo would be welcomed by boxing fans willing to open their wallets while debating the winner from contract signing until the opening bell.
