Holm Defeats McGee

Holly Holm

Holly Holm impressively, if not spectacularly, defended her World Boxing Federation World Light Welterweight title on Saturday night May 11 in front of a sold-out crowd at the Route 66 Casino Hotel´s Legends Theater in Albuquerque, with a unanimous decision over game but outclassed challenger Mary McGee.
Holm (31) had prior to the fight declared that it would be her last as a professional boxer, now wanting to concentrate on a campaign in MMA, and she appeared determined to put on a good show in front of the hometown fans who have continuously turned up to support her throughout her illustrious career.
And she certainly did so by dominating her five years younger opponent from the first bell, and winning all ten rounds on all three judges’ scorecards for a shutout (100-90 x 3) unanimous decision. McGee was by no means a push-over, she was just up against the Pound-For-Pound queen!

With the victory, her first and assumedly last of the WBF World Light Welterweight crown (she is also WBF World Champion at Welterweight!), ”The Preachers Daughter” leaves boxing with an amazing professional record of 33-2-3 (9), while Gary, Indiana’sMcGee drops to 20-2 (11).
The show, billed as “Mayhem”, was promoted by Lenny Fresquez and his Fresquez Productions.
Southpaw Holm will likely go down in boxing history as one of the best and most accomplished women to ever lace on gloves. She turned pro in 2002, and has since captured an astonishing thirteen (!) world titles in three weight classes, switching between Light Welter, Welter and Light Middleweight at her convenience.
The World Boxing Federation is proud to be associated with a great athlete such as Holm, and wishes her all the best in her Mixed Martial Arts career. She will no doubt continue to be successful!
