Havnaa Tips Nielsen To Defeat Larghetti

Norwegian cruiserweight Kai Robin Havnaa (5-0, 4 KOs) has tipped his training mate Micki Nielsen (20-0, 14 KOs) to defend his WBC International title against Mirko Larghetti (24-1, 16 KOs) on March 19 at the Albertslund Musikteatret in Copenhagen.

Having shared countless sparring sessions with Nielsen, Havnaa is able to offer a unique perspective on the Danish southpaw, and believes he is a ‘World-class fighter’ capable of beating the former World title challenger Larghetti.

"I think Micki is often underrated as a fighter,’’ says the 27 year-old. “He is much more technically astute than he appears to be. He may look like just a brawler, but make no mistake about it, I spar with Micki, and he’s not just tough guy. His power has an incredible impact, but he is also fast and very hard to read.

"I’ve trained with World-class boxers as an amateur, and believe me, Micki is a World-class fighter. If I had Micki’s record list, I would already be a huge star in Norway.

"He faces a tough test against Larghetti and I expect it to be his biggest challenge, but I’ve seen how Micki has been preparing in the gym, and I’m sure he will show his class and get the job done.’’

Havnaa, the son of the former Norwegian World Champion Magne Havnaa, is currently undefeated after five professional fights, and having relocated to Copenhagen to train with former two-time World Champion Joey Gamache, is eager to follow in his father’s footsteps.

‘’I’m making great progress thanks to my coach Joey Gamache,’’ says Havnaa. ‘’I feel that I’m getting better and better everyday. I like it here in Denmark, but it’s all about boxing. I’m here to train, eat and sleep, and that’s all!

"I have only fought five times in the pro ranks and it takes time to build up name and fame. I’m the son of a world champion, but still need to create my own name. I know it will only happen by working hard every day and that’s what I’m here to do."
