IBF bantamweight champion Lee Haskins, from Bristol, England retained his title for the first at the Ice Arena in Cardiff, Wales on Saturday night with a clear and unanimous 12 round points win over Mexican challenger Ivan Morales.
The victory was all the sweeter for Haskins, 33-3-(14), as he was awarded the title without throwing a punch when then champ Randy Caballero was stripped of the title after losing his title on the scale.
For the first half of this fight, Morales took the fight to the champion but Haskins timed his counter punches to perfection. Morales did try and work out Haskins’s unorthodox style in the middle rounds but Haskins kept his composure, stayed one step ahead all the time and eventually was rewarded with a 119-108, 118-110 and 118-110 on all three judges scorecards.
Ivan Morales, 29-2-(17), is the younger brother of legendary Mexican world champion Erik “Terrible” Morales and Diego “Pelucho” Morales.
