George Groves, 24-3-(18) won the battle of former world title challengers at the 02 in London on Saturday night by scoring a clear and unanimous 12 rouns decision over fellow Briton Martin Murray,33-3-1-(16).
The scores were 118-110 on all three cards but the scores did not reflect the efforts of Murray. The fight was a WBA super middleweight title eliminator. champion Felix Sturm recently failed a drug test and if stripped of the title Groves could face Fedor Chudinov for the title.
On the same Matchroom promoted card middleweight Chris Eubank Jr, 23-1-(18) made a successful first defence of his British middleweight title by taking out the previously undefeated Tom Doran, 17-0-(7) inside four one sided rounds. Eubank dropped Doran five times, once in round three and four times in the fourth round. Time of the stoppage was 2:35. Eubank will focus his attention is trying to get unbeaten world middleweight Gennady Golovkin into the ring.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the fight Eubank Jr said: " Gennady Golovkin I’m coming for you. I’m coming for your belts, man. Everyone’s scared of you. For some reason they think you’re this indestructible man. You’re not! And I’m coming. And if I can’t get you, Saunders(Billy Joe, WBO champ), you I’m coming for as well. You’re getting it. Anybody out there with a world title I’m coming for!”
Eubank Jr’s Promoter Eddie Hearn added, “Golovkin is ready to accept the fight. We’ll talk this week and hopefully that can get made. I believe that Chris Eubank Jr. against Gennady Golovkin could well get made this week.”
