Gonzalez crushes Limones in two

By Jose Santana Jr: In a non-title bout, WBA minimumweight titlist Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez took out Jesus Limones in the second round in the main event Saturday at the Centro de Convenciones Hotel Camino Real in Managua, Nicaragua.

Limones tried his best to take the fight to Gonzalez, but didn’t find much luck. The Nicaraguan-born Gonzalez knocked Limones down in the first round with a straight right over the left hand of Limones and directly on the chin. Limones made it up to beat the count and survived the final 20 seconds of the round.

Limones couldn’t survive the second round however. At the beginning of the round Gonzalez hit Limones with a left hook, again, directly on the chin which sent Limones down on his behind. He could not get up from this shot and the fight was waived at the 0:25 mark.

Gonzalez’s record improves to 26-0 (22 KOs) with the victory and the Mexican challenger falls to 9-2-1 (4). Gonzalez, who is promoted by Japanese-based Teiken Promotions in addition to Nicaragua’s Prodesa, will return in a title bout Oct. 24 in Tokyo. The fight will be the fifth defense of the 105-pound title he won in 2008. Gonzalez has grown in popularity since winning the title and is currently ranked No. 1 by SecondsOut at minimumweight. He has recently expressed a desire to face the top light flyweight, which until last weekend was Ivan Calderon, and is now unified champion Giovanni Segura.
