Tacoma, Wash. – For the second consecutive fight Mike Gavronski has spoiled a boxer’s United States debut.

Gavronski defeated Thomas Awimbono by unanimous decision in the super middleweight main event of Battle at the Boat 108 Saturday in Tacoma, Wash.

Gavronski improved to 22-2-1 with the victory. The judge’s scored the 10-round bout 100-90, 99-91, 98-92.

Awimbono, a native of Ghana who was fighting in the U.S. for the first time professionally, dropped to 25-5-1, losing for the first time since January 2010 and seeing his 18-bout winning streak end.

The win comes two months after Gavronski knocked out previously undefeated Jake Carr, a former Australian champion who was also making his U.S. debut.

Gavronski piled up rounds from the opening bell before things picked up in the seventh, which saw a flurry of punches from both fighters with each boxer landing their best punches up to that point.

Gavronski picked up the pace in the eighth round, taking advantage of his reach.

Awimbono posted one last surge towards the end of the 10th, connecting on a handful of solid punches, but the deficit was too much to overcome.

In the semi-main event, Marco Cardenas (6-5-1) posted an impressive win over Andres Reyes (5-1-2) in a six-round lightweight battle.

Cardenas won via unanimous decision, appearing as the 59-54 winner on all three judge’s scorecards.

Cardenas knocked Reyes down twice in the fourth round with the second coming right as the bell sounded.

It was the third fight between Cardenas and Reyes. Each boxer has a victory over the other with their first meeting ending in a draw.

Giovanni Cabrera-Mioletti (4-0) remained undefeated by defeating Niko McFarland by unanimous decision (40-36, 40-36, 40-36) in a matchup of 138-pounders.

Heavyweight Carlos Villanueva opened the card by winning his professional debut, defeating Jose Rocha by unanimous decision (40-36, 40-36, 40-36).

Also on the undercard, Zach Cooper (5-2-2) defeated Antonio Neal (4-7) by split decision (39-37, 37-39, 39-37) in a 153-pound bout and Andre Keys (3-1) notched his third straight win with a unanimous victory over felloww 149-pounder Nate Serrano (40-36, 40-36, 39-37).
