Fazeldin Pulls Out Of Mboyane Fight

After the previous disappointment of Sam Sheedy’s junior-middleweight clash with Bristol’s Danny Butler being postponed; Dennis Hobson’s show at Rotherham’s Magna Centre on February 6th has suffered another blow with Muheeb Fazeldin having to pull out of his Commonwealth bantamweight title fight against Klaas Mboyane. Both fights are now rescheduled for April 2nd, also at the Magna Centre.

With the vacant Commonwealth belt up for grabs, Sheffield’s Fazeldin was looking for an explosive performance against Mboyane - the South African who derailed Ross Burkinshaw’s career last year with a shock stoppage win. However, mirroring Sheffield man Sheedy’s earlier pullout, Fazeldin has been forced off the show through injury.

"It feels like we’ve been a bit jinxed with this show," explained promoter Hobson. "Both matches are top quality fights, worthy of TV billing, so we’re obviously disappointed to have to move them. Injuries are an unfortunate part of all sports though, particularly boxing, so we’ll just take it on the chin. The silver lining is that, with both fights now on our April 2 show, it’s not long for the fans to wait for what will be a terrific night.

"As a boxing fan, I’m still excited by this February 6th show though. We’ve got some great, young talent on the card. Local lad Sam O’Maison looks a very good prospect, and is in with the Northeast’s Anthony Hardy in the top of the bill. Both have good records with just one defeat each, so it’s a 50-50 fight and they’ll both want to impress. We’ve also packed the undercard with some talented up-and-comers like Reece Cartwright, Brad Watson, Hamed Ghaz, and Ramzy and Loua Nassa. So it’s a good show to start the year with, and one I’m looking forward to."
