Chris Eubank Jr earned himself a shot at WBA middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs at the O2 in London on Saturday night after forcing Irishman Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan to retire after seven action packed rounds.
After a slow start O’Sullivan, from Cork, landed the better punched in the opening round including a solid left hand that rocked Eubank Jr.
In the second round thing livened up as Eubank returned the compliment by wobbling O’Sullivan with a couple of solid uppercuts, To his credit, ‘Spike’ came roaring back to stun Eubank with some heavy left hands.
O’Sullivan looked every inch a winner in the third as he dragged Eubank into a street fight and again landed some big left hands.
The next three rounds pretty much followed the same pattern until Eubank delivered some solid right hands in the seventh, prompting O’Sullivan’s corner to pull him out at the end of the seventh round.
