Eubank Jr Rips British Title Away From Brave Blackwell

Chris Eubank Jr claimed the British middleweight title in style at the Wembley Arena in London on Saturday night with an emphatic 10th round stoppage win over the brave but outgunned champion Nicky Blackwell.

The fight was halted after 2.21 of the 10th when referee Victor Loughlin called on the advice of the ringside doctor, after Blackwell sustained a badly cut and swollen shut left eye.

Both fighters went toe to toe from the first round in a highly competitive fight but it was Eubank who was quicker to the punch, threw the faster combinations and landed twice as many punches against the champion, who far too often stood in front of Eubank Jr and allowed him to go to work.

“It was a great fight, Blackwell is a hell of a fighter,” said Eubank Jr afterwards. “I have always dreamed about being British champion and I have. It was a great fight.”

Chris Eubank Sr said afterwards: “ Nick Blackwell showed he had a great heart and great ability.”

Immediately afterwards Blackwell was worryingly stretchered out of the Arena with a oxygen mask on his face and it later emerged that Blackwell was taken to hospital.

Heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury improved to (19-0, 10 KOs) with clear 100 round unanimous decision over American veteran Dominick Guinn (35-11-1, 24 KOs). Fury was in control throughout. The score was 100-90.
