Nonito ‘The “Filipino Flash” Doniare, 36-3-(23), claimed the vacant WBO jr featherweight title, via an exciting 12 round unanimous points win over Cesar Juarez, 17-3-(13), at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Friday night.
Donaire decked Juarez twice in the fourth round and. Donaire landed the bigger shots throughout but Juarez hung in there to make for an exciting fight. Juarez rallied late on in the fight and even managed to upset Donaire with relentless pressure. But Donaire recovered to nick a 116-110, 116-110 and 117-109 verdict.
On the undercard undefeated Puerto Rican prospect Felix Verdejo extended his record to 19-0-(14), with an eye catching second round knockout over Brazilian Josenilson Dos Santos, 25-3-(15), in a clash for the WBO Latino lightweight title.
Verdejo delivered right hand that decked Dos Santos. Dos Santos rose before the count ended but he was unsteady on his feet and the fight was stopped after 2:21 of the second round
