Brook Takes Out Bizier In 2

By Olly Campbell: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook did as expected in Sheffield on Saturday night, destroying outclassed Canadian challenger Kevin Bizier in two, one sided rounds.

Bizier, who had never been put down going into the fight, looked timid and gun shy from the opening bell as Brook began working his slick jab, teeing off on his overwhelmed mandatory challenger at will. After an opener that set the rather predictable scene, Bizier was soon wilting under the pressure of a Brook flurry in the second round, hitting the deck by the ropes and rising on wobbly legs with a look of capitulation already etched upon his face. Smelling an early end to the evening, Brook unloaded with another combination, sending the hapless Bizier crashing down for the finish with a solid right uppercut 2 minutes into the round.

"The Special One" has been under fire from boxing fans for facing a lack of quality opposition since winning his title in Carson, California in August 2014, when he defeated then-champion, Shawn Porter. A machete attack on holiday in Tenerife, and a rib injury suffered before last years scheduled Diego Chaves fight were problems that have now been compounded by bitter rival Amir Khan’s decision to overlook Brook for a UK showdown in the summer, leaving the Sheffield fighter in desperate need of a big name to claw back some credibility points with the fans who have ridiculed his recent level of opposition.

"I’d love that green [WBC] belt," Brook said post-fight. "Danny Garcia. I’d love [Timothy] Bradley. [Keith] Thurman. [Shawn] Porter. Any in that hat, I’ll fight. Let’s unify the division and in time, we will move up."

There was also a win on the card for Hull lightweight Luke Campbell, who bounced back from his surprise defeat to Yvan Mendy last time out with a stylish second round stoppage of Gary Sykes. The Olympic gold medalist, under new trainer Jorge Rubio, stated post fight his intention to pursue the British title after his one sided win.

"Mendy is on my hit list," he said of his desire to also avenge his defeat. "I can’t wait to get in there with him but why not pick up the British title now? No disrespect to Scott [Cardle] but he’s got a belt and I want it."
