Legendry Boxing trainer Brendan Ingle has passed away at the age of 77. Ingle, a former professional boxer, trained some of the greatest boxers Britain has ever produced including Herol Graham, Naseem Hamed, Johnny Nelson and Junior Witter.

The family released a statement on Friday, saying: "Brendan passed away peacefully at 7.40am at the Royal Hallamshire hospital.

"He suffered a brain haemorrhage last week. He was making a good recovery but then suffered a further bleed to his brain on Monday.

"His family and Johnny Nelson have been by his bedside 24/7 until his passing. We are devastated. But, as Brendan always said, life goes on."

Ingle, who was born in Dublin in 1940, became one of the most successful trainers in British boxing history in the 1980’s and 90’s. Many great fighters passed through his Wincobank gym in Sheffield during this period and he produced not only world champions in Hamed, Nelson and Witter but also numerous British and European champs.

In 1998 Brendan was awarded the MBE for his services to boxing and the tireless work he put in to work with young people in the Sheffield area. Brendan also has an Honorary doctorate from Sheffield’s Hallam University.
