Blackwell Suffers  Bleed On The Brain

Nicky Blackwell is in an induced coma as of Sunday morning after suffering a bleed on the brain following his brave but unsuccessful battle with Chris Eubank Jr at Wembley Arena in London on Saturday night.

Blackwell, who was defending his British middleweight title, was stopped in the 10th round of a brutal battle due to a badly swollen and bloodied left eye on the recommendation of the ringside doctor, who advised referee Victor Loughlin to stop the contest. Moments later Blackwell collapsed and was stretchered out of the ring with an oxygen mask on.

Quoted on Skysports.com the general secretary of the British Boxing Board of Control Robert Smith said: "I spoke to one of the doctors this morning and he said there is a bleeding of the brain. He’s in intensive care, he’s in an induced coma and he is resting and being looked after by the experts.

"It’s a very normal procedure. They put you in a coma to get the swelling to go down. There’s no time-scale. Now it’s just a matter of waiting and seeing."
