Beterbiev Ko’s Brave Johnson In 4

IBF light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev, 13-0-( 13), maintained his 100% KO record by knocking out the previously unbeaten Callum Johnson (17-1, 12 KOs) at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago, on Saturday night.

The unbeaten champion decked Johnson at the end of round one and looked to finish him off in the second but the Englishman recovered and dropped Beterbiev with a looping left hand. Just as the fight was developing into a war Beterbiev again dropped the brave and bloodied Johnson with a short right hand. Johnson managed to scramble to his feet at the count of 10 but was out on his feet and Beterbiev retained his title.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the fight, an understandably upset Johnson said: "I don’t want to make any excuses, but I can fight better than that.

"I came close in that second round but the better man won and he finished the job off, so fair play to him.

"It’s not dented my confidence at all. In fact I think I might have needed that and believe me, I am coming back stronger and better than ever and I can’t wait to get back in there."
