Mack tried to be more active in round two. He landed a short uppercut to the chin of Froch. Both fighters kept their left hands low. Froch went to the body and head. He was measuring Mack. His best chance came at the end of the round. Another chopping right hand stumbled Mack.
In round three, Froch, 35, measured Mack. His jab was finding its mark. His right was locked and loaded. A combination in the middle the round clipped the chin of Mack. Froch shifted his attack to the body. A hard right to the side of Mack’s body stopped him in his tracks. A follow-up left to the heart hurt Mack badly. The 33-year old fighter tossed out a lazy left and collapsed to the canvas. Mack writhed on all fours but could not pull himself up.
The time was 2:30 seconds of round three.
“I was kept waiting a bit. I warmed up good. I was bit cautious in the second round,” said Froch on the ring apron after the bout. “I could see what was coming. His right was pretty good, but I could see everything coming.”
Froch is contractually committed to fight Lucian Bute in Canada in 2013. He has also expressed interest in fighting the only two men who have defeated him, Mikkel Kessler and Andre Ward.
