As one can imagine both Adrien Broner and Paulie Malignaggi has plenty to say immediately after their WBA welterweight battle at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on Saturday. Broner nicked a 12 round split decision and the new champion understandably thought he was a worthy winner.

“He couldn’t hit me,” said Broner in the ring after the fight. “He was shadow boxing…all he did was run. I just cut off the ring. That’s all I had to do…I feel very comfortable at the weight. Since everyone says I’m picking my opponents, my next opponent I’m gonna a let ya’all pick.”

Broner added. “I’m good. I beat Paulie, I left with his belt and his girl.”

After such a close fight Maligignaggi insisted that he should have had his arm raised in victory.

“The shots he landed looked pretty but he worked about 30 seconds of every round,” said Malignaggi. “It was a close fight because when he did work it was good, I’m not going to take it away from him, but I thought I outworked him by a lot. I thought I threw a lot more punches. I thought I carried the pace. I thought I threw a lot more body shots. Tom Schreck [the judge who scored it 9-3 in rounds for Broner] is a New York judge that was in Al Haymon’s pocket, very simple.”

When asked to elaborate Malignaggi added: “I’m not saying it was fixed, but it’s always the politically more connected fighter that gets the close decisions and this was no different. That’s what I’m saying. It always happens.”
