Each week, Gerry will answer as many of your questions as he can on the Sirius XM radio show “Friday Night at The Fights,” a show Gerry co-hosts with Randy “The Commish” Gordon, former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.
The show airs every Friday on Sirius channel 92 and XM channel 208 from 6 – 8 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.
Our first question comes from Alex T., who asks:
Hi Gerry, I’ve always wondered about something and thought you might know the answer. Why isn’t there a standard size for all boxing rings?
Our next question comes from Ray G., who asks:
Gerry, how accurate do you think CompuBox is and if it really is accurate, shouldn’t it be used as a tool in judging?
Gerry answered the following questions on last week’s show:
Our first question came from Ken D., who asked:
Hi Gerry, as I watched Floyd Mayweather completely dominate Saul Alvarez, it dawned on me that every time Mayweather fights, many fans feel each opponent is the one who will finally dethrone him. Well, 45 have failed to do that and I actually think Floyd is the best fighter I’ve ever seen. Do you agree?
Gerry did not agree and does not think Mayweather would do as well against fighters like Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns, Roberto Duran or Marvelous Marvin Hagler.
Our next question came from Rick J., who asked:
Gerry, I’ve heard that Floyd Mayweather may actually end up with a 60 million-dollar payday from his fight with Saul Alvarez after PPV receipts. In your day, many fights were shown on closed circuit. I know fighters back then didn’t make 60 million but did you guys get a taste of the receipts for closed circuit?
Gerry explained that, yes indeed, fighters got part of that money as well and he is able to live off his earnings in the ring to this day.
