Ask Gerry Cooney – November 25th, 2015

Compiled by Allan Scotto

Hey, fans! Welcome to “Ask Gerry Cooney,” where you get to ask former heavyweight contender “Gentleman” Gerry Cooney any boxing-related question you’d like. Your questions for Gerry’s review will be featured at every week.

Each week, Gerry will answer as many of your questions as he can on the Sirius XM radio show “Friday Night at The Fights,” which Gerry co-hosts with Randy “The Commish” Gordon, former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.

The show airs every Friday on Sirius / XM Rush Zone Channel 93 from 6-8 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.

Please submit your questions to:

Our first question comes from Henry G. who asks:

Gerry, the showdown between Tyson Fury and Vladimir Klitschko is finally here! I realize that these are two big heavyweights and that anything could happen, but that being said, I just don’t see any way that Fury beats Klitscko beats Fury. Do you?

Our next question comes from Phil D. who asks:

Gerry, one of my favorite fighters, Chris Algieri, is fighting someone named Erick Bone. I don’t know a lot about Erick and I’m wondering, after three big fights, two of which he lost, is this a step down for Chris, or is this a “keep busy” fight? What do you think?

And Gerry answered the following questions on last week’s show.

Our first question came from Tony S. who asked:

Gerry, this week, the WBC stripped Miguel Cotto of his title. There are so many different, so called Champions, that I have no idea who most of them even are any more. Do you think it matters in the least that the WBC made this move or have we, as fans, outgrown the whole sanctioning body system?

Gerry agrees that the entire system has been watered down and that it has cheapened the value of the belts. Gerry preferred when the belts that really mattered were the WBC and the WBA.

Our next question came from Miguel R. who asked:

Gerry, coming up is Daniel Jacobs against Peter Quillin. To me this looks like a pretty good fight, although I do see Quillin emerging victorious. How do you see this one?

Gerry agrees that this should be a good one and he agrees that Quillin will end up victorious.
