Ask Gerry Cooney- Nov. 10, 2012

Compiled by Allan Scotto

Hey, fans! Welcome to “Ask Gerry Cooney,” where you get to ask former heavyweight contender “Gentleman” Gerry Cooney any boxing-related question you’d like. Your questions for Gerry’s review will be featured at every Thursday morning.
Each week, Gerry will answer as many of your questions as he can on the SiriusXM radio show, “Friday Night at The Fights,” a show that Gerry co-hosts with Randy “The Commish” Gordon, the former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.

The show airs every Friday on Sirius channel 92 and XM channel 208 from 6 – 8 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.
Please submit your questions to
Our first question comes from Tony T, who asks:
Gerry, Carmen Basilio, a legend in boxing has passed away. Can you share your thoughts on Carmen’s impact on the sport of boxing?
Our next question comes from Vinny G, who asks:
Hi Gerry, this Saturday, WBC super bantamweight champion Abner Mares squares off against WBA super bantamweight champion Anselmo Moreno. Who do you like and why?
Gerry answered the following questions on last week’s show:
Our first question this week came from Richie S., who asked:
Gerry, right after Danny Garcia’s rematch victory over Erik Morales, people started talking about Garcia facing Zab Judah. Do you like this match-up?
Gerry felt Zab looked good in his last outing but he is also getting older. But Gerry does feel it would be a good match-up.
Our next question came from Robert M., who asked:
Gerry, reports are flying around the Internet claiming that we’ve lost Manny Steward and just as many are saying that he hasn’t passed but is very sick and hospitalized. Do you know Manny and if so, can you share your feelings?
Gerry and Randy dedicated an entire show to Manny and they reiterated what a wonderful man he was. They pointed out that Manny was one of the most accessible people in boxing and that he was a wonderful ambassador for the sport.
