Each week, Gerry will answer as many of your questions as he can on the Sirius/XM radio show, “Friday Night at The Fights,” a show that Gerry co-hosts with Randy “The Commish” Gordon, the former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.
The show airs every Friday on Sirius channel 94 and XM channel 208 from 7 – 9 PM Eastern Standard Time.
Our first question this week comes from Kenny R., who asks:
Hey Champ. This Saturday Marco Antonio Rubio will face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Do you think that Junior has ever really been tested, and how do you see this one going?
Our next question comes from Pete T., who asks:
Do you see any heavyweight fighting today that you feel could capture the heavyweight title and keep it?
Gerry answered the following questions on the air last Friday:
Our first question came from Sean D., who asked:
Gerry, how do you think Floyd Mayweather would have fared if he were fighting in the era of Leonard, Hagler, Hearns, Duran, etc.? Do you think he would be undefeated against that type of talent?
Gerry did not think Floyd could stand up to that kind of talent and felt that many of those fighters would have been too strong for him.
Our next question came from Tony T., who asked:
HI Champ, just wondering about something. When sparring with head gear, the head gear often gets turned on your head and can block your vision. Do you think headgear is a help or a hinderance for boxer safety?
Gerry pointed out how important head gear is to a fighter and that fighters should be very sure that it fits perfectly.
