The show airs every Friday on Sirius channel 92 and XM channel 208 from 6 – 8 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.
Our first question comes from Billy C, who asks:
Gerry, do you think there is a fighter in or close to his weight class that could actually beat Floyd Mayweather?
Our next question comes from Kenny D., who asks:
Gerry, in the fight between Guillermo Rigondeaux and Nonito Donaire, why do you think Donaire looked so unable to do anything with Rigondeaux? Was it a style he hadn’t faced?
Gerry answered the following questions on last week’s show.
Our first question came from Bernard Campbell, who asked:
Gerry, a referee has major influence on the outcome to a boxing match, the rhythmic cadences of walking back and forth, the unequaled emphasis of separation on fighters on the break, the lack of warnings for indiscretions. It seems to me that judges are rightly criticized and under-scrutinized for their work but who governs the referees? Who sanctions them? They have major influence in a win, ratings and there is that possibility of profiting from a match! For instance, was Arthur Mercante Jr. ever reprimanded for that Miguel Cotto-Yuri Foreman fiasco at Yankee Stadium? I don’t see him much anymore!
Gerry and Randy both pointed out that referees are under the control of the commission that hires them. Gerry also agreed that after the Cotto-Foreman fight, we haven’t seen much of Arthur Mercante Jr.
Our next question came from Jason Tremble, who asked:
Gerry, when the Klitschko brothers are done with their reign, who do you feel has a shot at staying at the top, to take their place? Or perhaps, do you think that person hasn’t arrived on the scene yet?
Although there are some good fighters in the heavyweight division, Gerry does not feel that any of them display the type of talent to have longevity as the heavyweight champ.
