Ask Gerry Cooney - March 28, 2014

Compiled by Allan Scotto

Hey, fans! Welcome to “Ask Gerry Cooney,” where you get to ask former heavyweight contender “Gentleman” Gerry Cooney any boxing-related question you’d like. Your questions for Gerry’s review will be featured at every Thursday morning (or in this case, Friday!).

Each week, Gerry will answer as many of your questions as he can on the Sirius XM radio show “Friday Night at The Fights,” a show Gerry co-hosts with Randy “The Commish” Gordon, former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.
The show airs every Friday on Sirius Sport Zone Channel 92 from 6-8 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.
Please submit your questions to:
Our first question comes from Richie T., who asks:
Gerry, it was announced this week that Adrien Broner will be facing Carlos Molina. How do you see that one?
Our next question comes from Mike C., who asks:
Gerry, based on what you’ve seen, do you think Deontay Wilder could beat either of the Klitschko brothers?
Gerry answered the following questions on last week’s show:
Our first question came from Vinny G., who asked:
Gerry, I’m curious as to how you see the upcoming fight between Shawn Porter and Paulie Malignaggi? Paulie is a great boxer but I don’t believe he has the power to keep Porter off him. What do you think?
Gerry agreed that Paulie is a masterful boxer and feels that he’ll give Porter a good fight that could go either way.
Our next question came from Jimmy E., who asked:
Gerry, during your fight with Larry Holmes, you were penalized three points for low blows that were actually caused by Larry pushing your head down. I know that fight didn’t go to the scorecards but in a situation like that where the fight isn’t stopped, can the fighter’s management dispute those deductions and if proven right, is the decision changed?
Gerry pointed out that in that situation, a commission could order a rematch.
