Mehdi Amar, 33-4-2-(16), won a 12 round unanimous decision win over Serhiy Demchenko, 16-10-1-(12 ), to claim the vacant European light heavyweight title at the Cirque d’Hiver in Paris, France on Friday.
Amar was judged a 115-112, 115-113 and116-111 on all three judges cards. Demchenko applied the pressure for long periods of the fight but lacked the speed and defensive skills against the technically superior Amar.
A clash of heads in the fifth round cut Demchenko under his right eye. Amar knocked Demchenko down in the ninth round a jab that was as much from a slip as anything else.
