Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Rocky Fielding held a press conference in New York Wednesday to promote their fight for the WBA ‘Regular’ Super Middleweight Title, to take place at Madison Square Garden in New York on December 15th.
Alvarez and Fielding appeared before the media and were full of mutual respect.
The first to speak was Fielding, who stated the following: “This is the opportunity of my life, I will give everything I have.”
“Canelo is a great boxer and we are aware of that, but I come from the United Kingdom to give my people joy. I am in my weight and I will take advantage of all my advantages,” said the WBA regular champion.
The second to speak was Alvarez, who said: “We are here to make history, fighting in New York was always a dream and now it is a reality.”
“It’s a challenge to move up, he (Rocky) is bigger, he has reach, but we’re working to get the triple championship,” Alvarez said.
Fielding will fulfil the first defense of the crown that he won from Germany’s Tyron Zeuge last July.
The fight will be promoted by Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing and Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions.
While Rocky Fielding is the regular champion, his fellow Briton and Liverpudlian Callum Smith is the rightful titleholder after defeating ‘Super’ champion George Groves via seventh round ko a few weeks ago in the World Boxing Super Series final.
