Algieri puts an exclamation point on return

Chris Algieri

Chris Algieri put an exclamation point on his return to the Paramount winning a unanimous decision before a raucous hometown crowd at "Rockin Fights 9."

Algieri, "The Pride of Huntington," bloodied the more experienced "Mighty Mike" Arnaoutis with a cut over the right eye in the eighth round and kept up a constant barrage right to the final bell.

The now 17-0 (7 KO) Algieri never looked back after a hard left in the second stunned him and used a combination of skill and superior legs to wear down the heavy-hitting Greek.

"Chris Algieri’s boxing expertise came through on every level as he proved once again that he is on the road to a world title shot," said Star Boxing’s Joe DeGuardia at ringside. "It was a great 10-round action fight before an enthusiastic crowd that witnessed a great battle of skill and will."

Algieri worked the Paramount crowd into a frenzy with some stunning combinations that left Arnaoutis on the ropes at the sixth round bell. He came out swinging in the seventh with a blistering pace the southpaw could not answer.

"My hat’s off to Arnaoutis, who was in great shape and certainly came to fight," Algieri said. "I’m awed by the great competition and will keep moving ahead toward my world title goal."

"Chris Algieri is up and coming no matter who’s in front of him and he keeps progressing and developing," said DeGuardia. "Tonight, he certainly passed his biggest test so far."

In the undercard, Lightweight Alan Gotay added a sixth win to his undefeated record (3 KO) with a decisive six-round unanimous decision over Michael Doyle. Another Huntington favorite son, Gotay’s constant motion proved no match for the stationary Doyle.

Hicksville’s Anthony "Showtime Karperis was stopped in his bid to go 5-1 when his fight with Jonathan Cuba was stopped in the fifth. Cuba was lining up his shots and teeing off against Karperis when the referee stepped in.

Wendy "The Haitian Hurricane" Toussaint of Huntington also won a unanimous decision vs. On’rey Towns in his first professional bout.
