Vargas Ko’s Plaitis In 1/Oliveira Defeats Melis



Welterweight prospect Samuel Vargas scored an impressive first round knockout over Manolis Plaitis at the Hershey Center in Mississauga Ontario, Canada on Saturday night.

 

Vargas, who improved his record to 9-0-1-(3), claimed the vacant Canadian welterweight title, Plaitis drops to 17-2-1-(8). Immediately after the fight bitter rival Ahmad Cheikho jumped in the ring, took the microphone and demanded a rematch with Vargas. The new champion stopped Cheikho inside five rounds last October.

 

On the undercard American based Brazilian Michal Oliveira, 17-0-(12), billed as ‘The Brazilian Rocky’ scored a 79-73, 77-75, 77-75 unanimous decision over Sergei Melis,18-8-(7). The Estonian boxer has lost five of his last six fights.

 

In a Cruiserweight bout Denton Daley,5-0, scored a unanimous six round decision and Mexican Benito Quiroz, 6-2-(6). The scores were 60-54 on all cards.

 

At Middleweight Brandon Cook,5-0, won a bloody six round unanimous decision over Chris Aucoin ,4-6-1. In a tough fight both men were men cut.

 

In other action lightweight Steven Wilcox scored second round tko win on his debut against Nicholas Valcourt
