Boxing and poker – maybe a start on something new?

Even though both sports are known for intense action and rough characters, boxing and poker aren’t usually combined. This didn’t stop Gus Hansen (known as one of the biggest full tilt poker names)and Danish poker pro Theo Jorgensen from duking it out. Both know as skilled poker players in both the online poker and live tournament circuit, did quite well as shown in the video.

Retro throwback: Ruslan Provodikov vs. John Molina Jr.

By John J. Raspanti (Photo © German Villasenor, MaxBoing): When they met in the center of the ring fifty-seven-years ago, Gene Fullmer and Carmen Basillo attacked each other like there was no tomorrow. For them, there wasn’t. Every fight was about life and death. Losing wasn’t an option. Ruslan Provodnikov, and John Molina Jr., who collide June 11 at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, N.Y, are cut from the same hardscrabble cloth. They only know one way to fight. Hard. Manny Pacquiao meets Timothy Bradley for the third time: Do you care?

By John J. Raspanti (Photo © German Villasenor, MaxBoxing): Many were surprised when promotional company Top Rank announced a few months ago that former eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao would fight WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley for the third time at the MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV this Saturday. Even Bradley, who impressively dispatched Brandon Rios in his last bout, didn’t expect the phone to ring. “Honestly, I didn’t think he’d call,” Bradley said at a press Manny Pacquiao meets Timothy Bradley for the third time: Do you care?

"A Born Teacher Returns"

By Allan Scotto (Photo © German Villasenor): On November 7th, 2015, Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley did something that he hasn’t done since November 12th, 2011. He knocked someone out. But, not just anyone, he knocked out Brandon Rios, a rough and tumble fighter who had never been knocked out before! The loss was so devastating for Rios; he emotionally announced his retirement before he even left the ring. That is a very different story than what happened when Bradley... "A Born Teacher Returns"

Bradley dominates from the opening bell, stops Rios in nine

By John J. Raspanti (Photo © German Villasenor, MaxBoxing.com): Would he box or slug? That was one of the questions going into tonight’s battle between WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley and former world champion Brandon Rios. Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) did a little bit of both--eventually stopping Rios (33-3-1, 23 KOs) in round nine at the Thomas @ Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. MaxBoxing's Pound For Pound Rankings Update

By Matthew Hurley: The MaxBoxing pound-for-pound list for January 2015 consists of only one significant change. Although pound-for-pound lists are mythical and certainly debatable, inactivity counts against a fighter, no matter how talented, almost as much as a loss. In December we dropped super middleweight champion Andre Ward for inactivity. Ward has not fought since November of 2013 and still has nothing scheduled. He remains off the list... Pound-For-Pound List For December

By Matthew Hurley: MaxBoxing.com / Secondsout.com’s pound-for-pound list for the month of December consists of three main moves among the ten fighters ranked. By Allan Scotto: When Joe DeGuardia, the President and CEO of Star Boxing signed Chris Algieri to meet Ruslan Providnikov in the ring at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York on June 14th, 2014, many people wondered what Algieri had done to make DeGuardia so angry. Pacquiao Continues Pay Per View Nonsense

By Matthew Hurley: Now that Manny Pacquiao versus Chris Algieri is a done deal, the PacMan officially revealed himself to be Bob Arum’s puppet on a string. No, this is not as bad as Colonel Tom Parker ripping apart his only client Elvis Presley over nearly twenty-one years but it begs the question, who would Manny be fighting on November 22 had he not signed a contract extension through 2016? Certainly not Algieri... Pacquiao Continues Pay Per View Nonsense

Showtime at StubHub

By Steve Kim: This Saturday night, Showtime gets back into the business of broadcasting boxing from the StubHub Center in Carson, California, a noted fight venue where fistic magic seems to happen consistently. Marquez-Alvarado: from Chemical Warfare to Collective Amnesia

By Gabriel Montoya (Photo © Chris Farina / Top Rank): I’ve never been into character assassination. I have the highest respect for professional fighters, be the sport mixed martial arts or boxing. Fighters are among the best people I know, open-minded, warm, fierce and fearless. They aspire to display the very best attributes a human can in the most dire of situations. Again and again, fighters disconnect the “flight” mechanism built into all of us and go to work. The fight itself is Marquez-Alvarado: from Chemical Warfare to Collective Amnesia
