Boxing and poker – maybe a start on something new?

Even though both sports are known for intense action and rough characters, boxing and poker aren’t usually combined. This didn’t stop Gus Hansen (known as one of the biggest full tilt poker names)and Danish poker pro Theo Jorgensen from duking it out. Both know as skilled poker players in both the online poker and live tournament circuit, did quite well as shown in the video.

The Future of Puerto Rico?

By Steve Kim (Photo © Peter Amador / Top Rank): Right now, there is a bit of a vacuum in Puerto Rican boxing. This proud island, which treats the sport as it’s national pastime, has had a glorious succession of prizefighters that has seen the likes of Wilfredo Gomez, Felix Trinidad and Miguel Cotto become cultural icons. But with Cotto clearly on the back nine of his career and Juan Manuel Lopez failing to living up to expectations, a void currently exists. Azad Championship Report: Martinez Takes Chavez to School via Unanimous Decision

By Gabriel Montoya at ringside: The action was hot and the crowd was on fire for the Sergio Martinez-Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. middleweight title fight at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, NV. The Island: Part One

By Steve Kim: This Saturday night, WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez faces Orlando Salido (Showtime, 10:30 PM ET/PT). No Roman Holiday for Martinez

By Marty Mulcahey: When the subject of Roman Martinez is raised, my standard response is that the junior lightweight champion’s action style is deserving of a much wider audience. Instead, the hard-punching Puerto Rican must travel far and wide, even outside of his hemisphere, in search of broader recognition. The aggressive power-puncher does not have an audience commensurate to his skills but Martinez is on a path to building a résumé worthy of air-time on Showtime or HBO... No Roman Holiday for Martinez
