Boxing and poker – maybe a start on something new?

Even though both sports are known for intense action and rough characters, boxing and poker aren’t usually combined. This didn’t stop Gus Hansen (known as one of the biggest full tilt poker names)and Danish poker pro Theo Jorgensen from duking it out. Both know as skilled poker players in both the online poker and live tournament circuit, did quite well as shown in the video.

On the Move: SecondsOut World Rankings

By Derek Bonnett: Jermain Taylor and Cornelius Bundrage are once again world champions. There, I said it. I wish I would have said it last week, but at that time the very notion of Jermain Taylor and Cornelius Bundrage regaining their former world titles seemed highly unthinkable. In Taylor’s case, the notion seemed laughable to me. Group that with boxing’s persistence to prove itself the “Theater of the Unexpected” and the fact that I haven’t been able to pick a boxing match to save my life... 5 Best active fighters yet to have won a world title

Anson Wainwright: Through out the annals of time many very good fighters have failed to win a world title. Notably Sam Langford, Charley Burley etc. While it’s easier to win a world title today than in bygone years, there are still some very talented fighters who have yet to win a professional title. 5 Best active fighters yet to have won a world title

I Said That? A 2012 Preview Review: Part One

By Marty Mulcahey: It is that time of the New Year for me again, my yearly ritual of evaluating predictions made over the previous year. It is an annual act which fluctuates wildly between self-abuse and narcissism. Visitors to sports websites are sure to notice how easy it is for writers to make predictions at this time of the year, certain in the knowledge that few will remember what they wrote 365 days from now. Here at Maxboxing, we have higher standards and are held accountable for what is I Said That? A 2012 Preview Review: Part One

The 2013 K9 Awards: Part One

By Steve Kim: Another year has come and passed and it was another 12-month period where we didn’t see Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather square off. And guess what? It was actually still a very eventful and entertaining year for the sport of boxing, regardless. Better yet, it wasn’t completely overtaken by the MMA! (OK, I’m being facetious there.) But seriously, 2012 was a good one for the sport of boxing and its followers. Here’s a look back at what took place this The 2013 K9 Awards: Part One

On the Move: SecondsOut World Rankings 5/20/12

By Derek Bonnett: Boxing’s best remained on the move as some serious changes unfolded in the SecondsOut world rankings. A former champion moved up in weight to regain a SecondsOut ranking. A newly crowned champion made his first defense to establish some stability in his division and one of boxing’s most avoided contenders punctuated his case for a world title shot. 2011: Boxing Heaven or near-Dead End like 2010?...Part One

By Marty Mulcahey: I am a contrarian; which means instead of looking back upon a below-average 2010, I chose to look ahead to what should be a stellar year for boxing below the heavyweight division. I Said THAT?! The 2010 Preview Review: Part One

By Marty Mulcahey: It’s time for a yearly ritual that, unfortunately for me, borders on self-abuse this time around. The Collector: Part One

Steve Kim: If you’ve read my work in the past, you know that I’m a fairly big fan of the slick-boxing Anselmo Moreno, the current WBA bantamweight champion, who hails from Panama. In the past, I had the opportunity to watch a few of his fights against the likes of Wladimir Sidorenko, Mayhar Monshipour and Frederic Patrac. When I did, I mentioned his exploits in my “Final Flurries.” It turns out I wasn’t the only admirer of “Chemito.” The Collector: Part One

Thank Buddha it’s Friday, fight fans. Time has seemed slow down for me these days. Not sure why. Maybe it’s my body slowly recoiling from my 37th birthday coming up next week. Maybe it’s because I never wear a watch and have started to not notice time in my older age. In any case, we have a full roster of fights this weekend and a whole lot of questions today about almost none of them. Fight fans, I have to ask again, let’s cut the questions to the quick. I love the conversation we’ve got going, Montoya’s Friday Mailbag

I Said That? My 2009 Preview Review

By Marty Mulcahey: Readers that visit multiple boxing websites are sure to notice how easy it is for journalists to make predictions; certain in the knowledge that few will remember what they wrote in a year’s time. But here at Maxboxing, we have high standards and are held accountable for what we write. With those thoughts in mind, every year I venture back in time and review my predictions for the previous year. Take a look around the ‘Net. I don’t think you will find another boxing website I Said That? My 2009 Preview Review

Preview and Predictions for 2010

By Martin Mulcahey: Maxboxing is the most progressive boxing site in cyberspace. This means instead of looking back upon a great 2009, I want to look ahead to what should be another stellar year for boxing below the heavyweight division. Getting a jump on the competition also allows me to claim all other boxing writers are ripping off my opinions and predictions..., at least the ones I get right. In the next three installments I will present an overview of every weight class. For each division I Preview and Predictions for 2010
