Boxing and poker – maybe a start on something new?

Even though both sports are known for intense action and rough characters, boxing and poker aren’t usually combined. This didn’t stop Gus Hansen (known as one of the biggest full tilt poker names)and Danish poker pro Theo Jorgensen from duking it out. Both know as skilled poker players in both the online poker and live tournament circuit, did quite well as shown in the video.

Mijares, 49-7-2 (24), looks to come in and be the first to add an “L” to the popular champion’s résumé. Meanwhile, Santa Cruz will look to remain undefeated in the second defense of the title he won in August of 2013. The always smiling, Rosemead, California resident Santa C Leo on Cruz Control

Azad Championship Report - Santa Cruz Faces His Toughest Test

By Steve Kim (Photo © K9 Photos): Co-headlining this Saturday night’s card from the StubHub Center (Showtime 10:30 p.m., ET/7:30 p.m., PT) is Leo Santa Cruz, a fighter on quite a run recently. At this time last year, he was still just a relatively unknown beltholder still trying to gain a foothold in the business. He ended 2012 (where he performed five times) as a fighter with immeasurable momentum and kicked off this year by earning a spot on the Floyd Mayweather-Robert Guerrero pay-per-view Azad Championship Report - Santa Cruz Faces His Toughest Test

2011: Boxing Heaven or near-Dead End like 2010?...Part One

By Marty Mulcahey: I am a contrarian; which means instead of looking back upon a below-average 2010, I chose to look ahead to what should be a stellar year for boxing below the heavyweight division. Getting a jump on the competition allows me to claim all other boxing writers are ripping off my opinions and predictions as well...at least the few I get right... 2011: Boxing Heaven or near-Dead End like 2010?...Part One

Montoya’s Friday Mailbag

Montoya’s Friday Mailbag

Thank Buddha it’s Friday, fight fans. Time has seemed slow down for me these days. Not sure why. Maybe it’s my body slowly recoiling from my 37th birthday coming up next week. Maybe it’s because I never wear a watch and have started to not notice time in my older age. In any case, we have a full roster of fights this weekend and a whole lot of questions today about almost none of them. Fight fans, I have to ask again, let’s cut the questions to the quick. I love the conversation we’ve got going, Montoya’s Friday Mailbag
Year-End Thoughts from the Home Office

Year-End Thoughts from the Home Office

By Lee Groves: The best thing that can be said about this past week’s developments is that boxing is making news. It wasn’t exactly good news, but it was news nonetheless. Given boxing’s anemic standing among mainstream sports entities, it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Year-End Thoughts from the Home Office

Preview and Predictions for 2010

By Martin Mulcahey: Maxboxing is the most progressive boxing site in cyberspace. This means instead of looking back upon a great 2009, I want to look ahead to what should be another stellar year for boxing below the heavyweight division. Getting a jump on the competition also allows me to claim all other boxing writers are ripping off my opinions and predictions..., at least the ones I get right. In the next three installments I will present an overview of every weight class. For each division I Preview and Predictions for 2010

Montoya’s Monday Mailbag - Sept 14, 09

Good Monday fight fans. We have Mayweather/Marquez, Sergei Lyakhovich, and some Cotto/Pacquiao. Plus Montoya’s weekend fight pick results. “DADDY KEEP FIGHTING. WE’RE HUNGRY” Gabe, I’m sure you have received a ton of emails about this. Don’t know what your response is going to be...honestly that’s pretty damn nasty. Anyway...I also am annoyed by these boxer cliches...about how they fight for their kids. When they began their career, there could have been some truth to Montoya’s Monday Mailbag - Sept 14, 09

Is Marquez Really Pissing Away Vitamins?

Is Marquez Really Pissing Away Vitamins?

By Steve Kim: I’m sure most of you were sickened- or perhaps, more than just a bit amused- when on the latest edition of ’24/7’ that features Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Juan Manuel Marquez; to see the Mexican sharp-shooter guzzle his own urine. The belief being that what better way to replenish your own system of lost vitamins and other nutrients, than to put back what you just discarded? Is Marquez Really Pissing Away Vitamins?
