Boxing and poker – maybe a start on something new?

Even though both sports are known for intense action and rough characters, boxing and poker aren’t usually combined. This didn’t stop Gus Hansen (known as one of the biggest full tilt poker names)and Danish poker pro Theo Jorgensen from duking it out. Both know as skilled poker players in both the online poker and live tournament circuit, did quite well as shown in the video.

Veteran Katsidis isn't done yet

Michael Katsidis is a name that hasn’t been heard in boxing circles for awhile. But it wasn’t that long ago that the 36 year-old Toowoomba, Queensland native was must-see TV, regularly fighting through blood and cuts and fatigue, proud testimony to his Spartan heritage, on HBO Boxing After Dark and pay-per-view telecasts. Do We Plead for a Fifth?

By Steve Kim (Photo © K9 Photos): It was a successful Forum homecoming for future Hall-of-Famer Juan Manuel Marquez as he defeated the rugged Mike Alvarado in front of 12,090 mostly Mexican partisans who cheered his every move. He’s come a long way from being third banana to the likes of countrymen Erik Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera and being branded as just a safe, cautious counterpuncher. Alvarado was game but simply outgunned by the master from Mexico City, who was... Do We Plead for a Fifth?

Marquez Turns the Page

By Steve Kim: Juan Manuel Marquez will be paired up with Tim Bradley for the latter’s WBO welterweight title at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas this Saturday night. Marquez will forever be linked to one Manny Pacquiao, with whom he engaged in a historic four-fight rivalry. Their most recent meeting took place in December, ending with Marquez exorcising the demons of the past by leaving the fabled “Pac-Man” face-down and lifeless on the canvas with a perfectly timed counter right hand... Azad Championship Report - How Does Mares Stack Up?

By Steve Kim (Photo © Gene Blevins - Hoganphotos /Golden Boy Promotions): When you start talking about the elite of boxing, usually Floyd Mayweather, Andre Ward, Juan Manuel Marquez and Sergio Martinez are the names thrown around first and foremost. But there is someone who is often forgotten about according to one Richard Schaefer (who, not so coincidentally, happens to promote this guy): Abner Mares... The Human Highlight Reel

By Anson Wainwright (Photo © Golden Boy Promotions): Over the past decade or so, we’ve become accustomed to witnessing the likes of Carl Froch, Erik Morales, Brandon Rios and Company thrilling us regularly. The aforementioned trio are rarely if ever in anything other than barnburners. They’re can’t-miss-TV. It would be unfair not to mention several others who are also in thrill-a-minute bouts including Marco Huck, who for several years has shed blood to the behest of his German countrymen... By Gabriel Montoya: At 27 years old, the time appears to be now for Miass, Russia’s own Denis Shafikov. This Saturday, fresh off his best win, Shafikov will look to make his presence known in the lightweight division by attempting to best Alisher Rahimov over twelve rounds for the WBC Baltic lightweight belt at Sports Palace "Znamya" in Noginsk, Russia. Azad Championship Report: Robert Guerrero: “It’s about skills”

By Gabriel Montoya: There are few fighters in search of respect more than four-time titleholder Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero, 30-1-1 (18). You would think in this day and age (where the more belts collected, the more divisions you jump), respect as one of the top fighters in the world would be his. Still, it remains elusive. While he has held four titles, he has yet to wrest one from a big-name champion. Instead, Guerrero has fought for interim belts once the “regular” titlists abandon their Azad Championship Report: Robert Guerrero: “It’s about skills”

A Quick Look at Some Modern-Day Warriors

By Anson Wainwright: I consider every person who steps into the squared circle a warrior; each and every one of them has my utmost respect. However, certain fighters qualify more than others.
