Boxing and poker – maybe a start on something new?

Even though both sports are known for intense action and rough characters, boxing and poker aren’t usually combined. This didn’t stop Gus Hansen (known as one of the biggest full tilt poker names)and Danish poker pro Theo Jorgensen from duking it out. Both know as skilled poker players in both the online poker and live tournament circuit, did quite well as shown in the video.

Brunson Dropped Twice Before Stopping Cintron In Thriller

By Jason Pribila – Ringside – 2300 Arena, Philadelphia: Even the most dedicated boxing fan would need to have the maps in their GPS updated in order to find the crossroads that led to the Kermit Cintron – Tyrone Brunson match-up that served as the main event of a nine bout card presented by Kings Promotions taking place in Philadelphia. Kermit Cintron fights for one more chance at a world title

There’s no quit in Kermit Cintron. Never was, never will be. For the past number of years, the former IBF champion has battled injuries and other issues. He broke his hand in 2007, ignored the pain, and fought on. But his best asset--his power--was damaged. By John J. Raspanti Kermit Cintron fights for one more chance at a world title

2014 Boxing Resolutions

By Steve Kim: It never fails; does it? The first month or so into the New Year, you see people you’ve never seen working out at the gym. They are the ones who make New Year’s resolutions to start working out and get back into shape and as soon as January 2nd rolls around, they become Jack Lalanne all of a sudden. You wouldn’t mind them so much but the problem is they cause overcrowding in the workout areas and you quickly lose patience with them as they take three minutes between preacher 2014 Boxing Resolutions

The 2013 “K9 Awards”: Part Two

By Steve Kim: OK, after a short intermission, we resume our highly unofficial - and quite frankly, not all that important – year-end awards and look back at 2013. “To Emanuel”

By Gabriel Montoya (Photo © K9 Photos): My friend, friend to us all, Emanuel Steward died on October 25, 2012, unexpectedly. Even when it was announced, there was confusion as to how true it was. No one wanted to believe it. Amid that early confusion, I texted Steve Kim, asking if it was true. I didn’t want to hear his voice if it was true. I remember Steve telling me Emanuel was indeed gone. We spoke briefly. No one could talk right then. Speaking too long only made it more true. I haven& “To Emanuel”

Former De La Hoya trainer Robert Alcazar: "Canelo has only a 20% chance to win"

By Gabriel Montoya: The publicity train for “The One: Mayweather vs. Canelo” cannot be stopped. The fighters have arrived at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and the talking heads have had their say at the final press conference podium. Now all that’s left are pre-fight predictions and the all-male anorexic beauty pageant that is Friday’s gala weigh-in where we’ll all get the first answer of a two-part question... The Case for and Against Curtis Stevens

By Steve Kim: In a rather dreary edition of “Fight Night” on the NBC Sports Network from the Mohegan Sun this past Saturday night, Eddie Chambers was flummoxed by the counterpunching style of Thabiso Mchunu and then Tomasz Adamek had a perfunctory victory over the shopworn Dominick Guinn. But there was one notable bright spot, the continued resurgence of middleweight Curtis Stevens, who notched another eye-opening knockout victory over the usually durable Saul Roman... Can Sergio Martinez Go Home?

Alvarez-Trout: Shades of the past, a window to the future

By Gabriel Montoya: Saturday night’s WBA/WBC junior middleweight unification bout between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Austin “No Doubt” Trout to be held before a sold out crowd of 38,000 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas is being compared the “super fight” between Julio Cesar Chavez and Pernell “Sweet Pea” Whitaker held at the same locale nearly 20 years ago. Azad Championship Report: No Sprinkling of Cinnamon on May 4th

By Steve Kim: The big news last week was that WBC junior middleweight titlist Saul “Canelo” Alvarez would be facing WBA beltholder Austin Trout in one of the more intriguing and anticipated bouts of 2013. But in a new change of plans, it would not be taking place May 4th on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather’s bout against Robert Guerrero at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Azad Championship Report: Ponce de Leon vs. Mares: Signed, Sealed and Delivered

The NBC Sports Network TV Cheat Sheet- Sept. 21, 2012

By Marty Mulcahey: The quickly popular NBC Sports Network boxing program is becoming an equal to ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights” in terms of quality if not quantity. Tonight’s card was scheduled to be even better but a back injury to top 10-rated light heavyweight Gabriel Campillo scuttled an intriguing matchup against Russian prospect Sergey Kovalev. Azad Championship Report: Sergio Martinez and the Moment of Truth

By Gabriel Montoya (Photo © Chris Farina / Top Rank): The road to the middleweight championship of the world and beyond has been nothing but twists and turns for Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez. Saturday night at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, NV, in front of a sold-out crowd and an HBO Pay-Per-View audience, Martinez is either defending his lineal title or challenging for Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.’s WBC belt (which belonged to Martinez before he was stripped for not fighting the guy...
