Boxing and poker – maybe a start on something new?

Even though both sports are known for intense action and rough characters, boxing and poker aren’t usually combined. This didn’t stop Gus Hansen (known as one of the biggest full tilt poker names)and Danish poker pro Theo Jorgensen from duking it out. Both know as skilled poker players in both the online poker and live tournament circuit, did quite well as shown in the video.

Darnell “The Deezol” Boone: The man who refuses to stay down

By John J. Raspanti: In his 15 years as a professional fighter, Darnell Boone has been labeled a journeyman by some, and a gatekeeper by others. He’s also a spoiler, having ended the unbeaten winning streaks of boxers Chris Archer, James Countryman, James Johnson, and a guy named Adonis Stevenson, who just happens to be reigning WBC light heavyweight champion. Boone, 35, is also the only man to knock undefeated super middleweight champion, Andre Ward, to the canvas. Ward got up to win, but he Darnell “The Deezol” Boone: The man who refuses to stay down

5 Champs Who Will Remain and 5 Who Will Go in 2015

By Derek Bonnett: As we encounter another new year, the landscape of the boxing scene continues to evolve. With old champions acting out the final stages of their careers and new ones emerging to fill the void, boxing maintains a state of homeostasis and keeps fight fans intrigued even amid the dubious officiating and cries of scandal. Boxing, as always, will endure; however, not every participant with an alphabet title will be so lucky. Inevitably, the mighty will eventually fall and, 5 Champs Who Will Remain and 5 Who Will Go in 2015

Rios systematically destroys Alvarado

By John J. Raspanti (Photo © Chris Farina / Top Rank): here was no need to hype the third fight between warriors Brandon Rios and Mike Alvarado. Their first two bouts were brutal delights, with each man claming a victory. The main question heading into tonight’s third go-around was who had more left in the tank. Two minutes into the rubber match, it was obvious that Rios was the more energetic fighter. The 28-year-old from Oxnard, Ca. pounded Alvarado from pillar to post--leading to a stoppage.. Wilder won the fight, but trainer Breland deserves some credit

By John J. Raspanti (Photo © German Villasenor, MaxBoxing): Most boxing fans remember Mark Breland. He captured gold at the 1984 Olympic Games by boxing circles around his opponents. Fight day in Sin City

By John J. Raspanti: The questions here are many and varied. Can challenger Deontay Wilder take a punch? Will WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne be able to counter the wide shots of Wilder? Does Wilder have a stamina issue? Is Stiverne too slow to catch Wilder? Does previous competition mean that much when two huge men with power duke it out? MaxBoxing's Pound For Pound Rankings Update

By Matthew Hurley: The MaxBoxing pound-for-pound list for January 2015 consists of only one significant change.
