Boxing and poker – maybe a start on something new?

Even though both sports are known for intense action and rough characters, boxing and poker aren’t usually combined. This didn’t stop Gus Hansen (known as one of the biggest full tilt poker names)and Danish poker pro Theo Jorgensen from duking it out. Both know as skilled poker players in both the online poker and live tournament circuit, did quite well as shown in the video.

Pacquiao vs.Horn fight hangs in the balance

The on-again, off-again fight between WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and contender Jeff Horn took another turn last week with reports out of England that former welterweight world champion Amir Khan is in the frame to face the Filipino superstar in place of the little known Australian in the United Arab Emirates. Alvarez knocks Khan cold in round six

By John J. Raspanti (Photo © German Villasenor, MaxBoxing): Canelo Alvarez was stalking--while Amir Khan was boxing. Khan was doing fine until a big right hand knocked him out in round six at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV. Saturday night. In the opening stanza, both fighters established their jabs. Khan used the ring and glided to his left. He landed a stinging right hand. Alvarez connected with a couple of left hooks. Khan took the punches well. In round two, Alvarez (47-1-1, 33 KOs) Alvarez knocks Khan cold in round six

Khan might be quicker, but Alvarez has the equalizer

By John J. Raspanti: Amir Khan has always been something of an enigma. Nobody doubts his skills. Khan is a former Olympic silver medalist as well as a two-time world champion. =He can punch (23 knockouts in 31 professional fights) and box. Khan is athletic. He can use the ring when needed. His jab can sting. But there are flaws in his game. Khan has lost three fights, two by knockout. He’s kissed the canvas many times... His chin has been suspect for years. He takes too many chances, Khan might be quicker, but Alvarez has the equalizer

Does Robert Guerrero have enough left in the tank to defeat Danny Garcia?

By John J. Raspanti Former two-division world champion Robert Guerrero is 32, considered young in just about every profession, except boxing. Two years ago, he fought the then pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas, NV. The judges had Guerrero losing nine out of twelve rounds. The roughly three million dollars Guerrero pocketed likely helped to heal his wounds. Thirteen months later, Guerrero tangled with Yoshihiro Kamegai at the Stubhub Center in Carson, Calif. "A Born Teacher Returns"

By Allan Scotto (Photo © German Villasenor): On November 7th, 2015, Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley did something that he hasn’t done since November 12th, 2011. He knocked someone out. But, not just anyone, he knocked out Brandon Rios, a rough and tumble fighter who had never been knocked out before! The loss was so devastating for Rios; he emotionally announced his retirement before he even left the ring. That is a very different story than what happened when Bradley... "A Born Teacher Returns"

Stan “The Man” Martyniouk Wants To Prove His Worth

By John J. Raspanti: Stan Martyniouk believes he’s a pretty good fighter. Martyniouk won 85 matches as an amateur, eventually winning a bronze medal at the National Golden Gloves in 2007. Martyniouk turned professional soon after, winning his first 10 fights until being upset by Khadpehi Proctor at Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA. in 2010. HARD DOG BITES: Hunter's Stock Drops & Broner's Dubious Career Arc

By Blake Chavez: Virgil Hunter usually comes off as a cool customer, but in the second half of Amir Khan’s fight vs Chris Algieri, the Bay Area hipster trainer was literally sweating bullets while begging his charge to dig to Algieri’s body. He pleaded with Amir to stay in close when the going got tough, and to avoid running. Interesting to see Hunter in what appeared to be sheer panic-mode. It’s a good thing that Amir followed his own instincts and boxed his way to the win to HARD DOG BITES: Hunter's Stock Drops & Broner's Dubious Career Arc

“FAR FROM OVER”

By Allan Scotto: “I am down, but I am far from over!” So goes a line from the chorus of Frank Stallone’s number one smash appropriately entitled, “Far From Over.” Well, in today’s world of boxing, one might think that Stallone was singing about Chris Algieri, who is scheduled to fight Amir Khan on May 29th at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York. On social media, be it Facebook, Twitter, or any of the other forms of mass communication out there, it almost seems that Chris Algieri... “FAR FROM OVER”

Gesta and Molina meet at the crossroads

By John J. Raspanti: A boxing career is all about moving forward. A setback can be devastating, especially nowadays when one loss can seriously damage a fighter’ aspirations. On April 30, at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, CA, Mercito Gesta (28-1, 16 KOs) will meet Carlos Molina (17-2-1, 7 KOs) in what is arguably the most important fight of their respective careers. A glance at Gesta’s record shows a bid for lightweight championship honors in 2012. It would be easy to consider that Gesta and Molina meet at the crossroads

Garcia vs. Broner next? Lee-Quillin split draw, rematch?

By Jason Gonzalez: Brooklyn, NY - The highly anticipated matchup between unified junior welterweight champion (WBA/WBC) Danny “Swift” Garcia, 30-0, (17) and IBF title holder Lamont Peterson, 33-3-1, (17) should have been a fight that saw one undisputed champion. It should have been a scrap in which the victor would have claimed supremacy at 140 pounds.
