Velazquez, clearly the more polished of the two, had his opponent once more in trouble at the end of the second round, landing the cleaner shots, specifically a left cross to the chin, putting Arcos in a vulnerable position. Luckily, Arcos regained his senses quickly enough to get out of the round.
The Mexican was controlled in the next two rounds by the superior technical skills of the local fighter.
Velazquez found a home for the left hook/cross, landing it at near will. The Mexican was busted up, head snapped back and getting pummeled from all angles and tried hard to fight back with the referee wisely choosing to halt the assault at 1:19 of the fifth round.
Vidal Bests Perez in Six
Local bantamweight Jonathan ’’Pitbull’’ Vidal, 11-0 (7), engaged in a sloppy bout against Felix ’’La Ardilla’’ Perez, 7-2 (3), dropping him in the last round to win a decision.
Perez was dropped on an exchange at the end of the second round, with Vidal smacking the fighter on the break. However, the referee failed to call for a warning on the infraction.
Perez came back hard in the third, rocking his foe with wild shots toward the end of the third round, leaving Vidal walking dazed back to his corner.
Vidal regained control in the following round, not without things getting rough in spots, as Perez was chased down and pressured at the end of the frame.
Perez kept telling his corner that he was completely tired and could hardly go on.
Somehow, Perez woke up enough in the sixth and final round, using his legs, picking his spots, getting punched and wrestled down, with a legit right hand sending him down against the ropes at the end of the round.
Perez regained the vertical, going on to lose a unanimous 60-52, 58-54 and 59-53 decision.
Gonzalez Stops Rivera in Two
Super featherweight Juan Gonzalez, 9-0 (8), scored a second-round stoppage over southpaw Christopher Rivera, 3-5 (3) in two.
Extremely tall for the weight class, Gonzalez used his reach well behind a high guard, taking the first round.
Rivera suffered an injured right hand in the second round, taking a knee and motioning he could not continue.
