The Career Highlights of David Haye

The professional boxer David Haye, also known as The Hayemaker, is one of Britain’s most distinguished athletes of the last decade. The London-born 6’3’’ giant has won Cruiserweight and Heavyweight world championships with a record of 26-2 and 24 knockouts. His fantastic accomplishments did not go unnoticed and in 2010 he was a candidate for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year. To honour Haye’s extraordinary boxing legacy, Gala Casino are now giving away three pairs of gloves, signed by the champion himself. Here are a few of the Hayemaker’s most shining moments in his career:

  • David Haye’s personal career highlight was winning the WBA Heavyweight Championship against the 7’0’’ Russian giant Nikolay Valuev at the Nuremberg Arena in November 2009. The fight was nicknamed ‘David vs. Goliath’ and Haye managed to win it by using his accuracy and efficiency and circling his almost 100 pounds heavier opponent.

  • In November 2010, Haye met the former Olympic champion and fellow Londoner Audley Harrison in the ring in Manchester. The Haye vs Harrison fight was marketed as ‘The Best of Enemies’, as the two were good friends, before it all turned sour. Haye managed to win the match in less than eight minutes, with Harrison only landing one punch in the entire fight.

  • In November 2007 Haye won the WBA and WBC cruiserweight titles after knocking out Frenchman Jean-Marc Mormeck in Hauts-de-Seine. Haye’s victory was remarkable as the Londoner was able to bounce back and turn the match around after he had been floored in the fourth round. He beat the Frenchman in the seventh round with a technical knockout and is considered as one of Haye’s finest performances.

  • In July 2012 David Haye met Dereck Chisora in the ring at Upton Park. Plenty of controversy surrounded the match as the two had gotten into a fight at a press conference only a few months before. About 30,000 people came to watch this heated match and Haye was able to beat Dereck "Del Boy" Chisora in round five but not before taking a severe blow himself in round three.

  • In November 2006 Haye fought his third European Cruiserweight title defence against Italian Giacobbe Fragomeni at York Hall. The two fought a fierce fight and it didn’t look good for Haye in round six but he finally managed to secure victory in round nine.

Haye’s career shows that he’s one of the top athletes out there and if he’s ever making a comeback he’ll be sure to make it back into the boxing elite. Gala Casino are offering you a chance to win three pairs of boxing gloves signed by David Haye himself, by entering here you can be in with a shout of winning one of these great prizes.
