Ramirez Retains WBO Crown, Saucedo Defeats Zappavigna In Bloody Battle

WBO super middleweight champ Gilberto Ramirez, 38-0-(25), scored a routine 12 round decision win over Roamer Alexis Angulo 23-1-(20) at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Saturday night.

Ramirez completely controlled the previously unbeaten Angulo as the 119-109, 119-109 and 120-108 indicated.

In other action Alex Saucedo, 28-0-(18), stopped Lenny Zappavigna,37-4-(27), in the seventh round of a real bloody battle.

Saucedo dropped Zappavigna in round three but Zappavigna gamely fought back to dominate round four. In round five Saucedo pressured hard to regain control of what was developing into a real all out war between two highly skilled and motivated operators.

In round seven Zappavigna’s left eye was so badly swollen he was unable to see properly and with the blood from a cut flowing freely, his corner had no choice but to throw in the towel after 2.31.

Saucedo now becomes mandatory challenger to face WBO champion Maurice Hooker.

In a super featherweight bout Robson Conceicao, 8-0-(5 ) scored a third round stoppage win against the overmatched Guavino Guaman, 5-3-(1). Guaman was down in round one and twice in round three before the fight was stopped after 0.56.

Up at heavyweight Trey Lippe Morrison, 15-0-(15), knocked out Byron Polley, 30-23-1-(13) in round three. Morrison decked the game but outgunned Polley five times, twice in round, once in round two and twice in round three before the fight was stopped at the 1.39 mark.
